			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As many know we bought a house last August and we are involved in major renovations.  Part of this is landscaping.  I have been cutting back the weeds, wild roses and thistles since April and slowly I am winning.  However it is taking the good out of me and I keep saying that we need to rent a goat.  Every time I mow I say I am nearly dead and that maybe even a cow would do the job.  Well I didn&#8217;t think Tony was really listening until I went out to the truck to once again get the lawn mower and found I had a choice in equipment.  Mower vs: horse?</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1336" title="horse" src="http://fotogeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/horse.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="417" /></p>
<p>Just kidding this is Trigger the neighbourhood horse who got out of his pen.  You should have seen my expression when I walked out of the house to come face to face with him.  As my sister said &#8220;where are you living?&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>That is the question!  The other morning I woke up to an incredible sunrise so donning my fashionable pjs I grabbed my camera and went out on my front deck and set up.  I waited a few minutes until the sun looked like it was catching the Earth on fire and snapped away.  When I came in I started looking through and generating HDR pics.  I have only done HDR a few times and am a complete novice so I am not even sure I have the setting to its best.  I just keep playing with it until I see something I like.  Compared to regular shooting I think I still am a fan of natural.  I like HDR better when other people do it and on cloudy days to give the clouds texture and depth.  Oh well that is my opinion anyway.  By the way this sunrise was in Conception Harbour taken from Kitchuses.<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1230" title="sunrise" src="http://fotogeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/sunrise.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="762" /></p>

<p>
Why would I, or anyone for that matter, post this same damn shot <a href='</p>
<p>http://fotogeeks.com/2009/02/23/one-sunny-day/'>again</a>?</p>
<p>Well, a new show on da CBC, <a href='http://www.cbc.ca/republicofdoyle/'>Republic of Doyle</a>, <b>nearly</b> inspired me to get out shooting again. After the first episode, I said to the misses &#8220;Man, St. John&#8217;s looks beautiful&#8230; I&#8217;d love to shoot in such a vibrant and colourful place!&#8221;</p>
<p>Ah, but it&#8217;s January&#8230; and I say nearly because it was freezing cold and windy in town today. In short, I wimped out after clearing the driveway. So it was a quick visit to the archives, and a bit of dicking around in Lightroom, and there you go.</p>
<p>So this <a href='http://www.cbc.ca/republicofdoyle/'>new show</a> is pretty good&#8230; only thing I could criticize them for is going a little mad with the saturation, and perhaps only shooting when it&#8217;s sunny. Alas, that would make me a bit of a hypocrite.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Well it has been requested many times to post anything, so here it goes.  My new house is coming right along and I hope to be in it for Christmas.  On Sunday we got a little taste of the winter weather and what everything will look like for us this Christmas.  We drove back to Mt. Pearl on Sunday before it got too bad and went out again on Monday morning.  I was so pleased to see how the drive reminded me of a Dolly Partonish Colorado Christmas movie type&#8230;  It inspired me to blast the Christmas music in my car as I saw the trees heavy with new fallen snow and the sun coming up over the mountains.  Here are a couple of pics.</p>

I took it while walking downtown a few days ago. Something about watching <a href="http://fotogeeks.com/2009/10/24/exotic-travels/">that show</a> for two days straight inspired me to take it I guess.</p>
<p>I was hoping to have something new to post today. As of yesterday (Saturday) afternoon, the forecast was looking like shit for today. It couldn&#8217;t have been more wrong &#8211; sunny and warm. Unfortunately, by the time we realized that it was good weather for photography and managed to get all the little errands and bits of crap out of the way, the rain had started on the windshield.<br />

Top of the list is <a href='http://www.travelstotheedge.com/'>Travels to the Edge</a>. So while being housebound with the flu, and while trying to avoid some studying, I had a bit of a Art Wolfe-a-thon. It&#8217;s inspiring to watch this guy travel to exotic locations to shoot nature and the culture of locals. Despite that, it&#8217;s also a little depressing &#8211; new locations every half hour, willing subjects and thousands of $ in lenses and equipment. Add to that the 30 second Microsoft add at the start / end of every episode, and Art was toast.</p>
<p>Ah well, that&#8217;s a shot from our walk around Long Pond a few days ago using the kit lens. </p>
<p>Does anyone else see modern post production as The Great Equalizer?</p>
