Here are some flowers from the Botanical Gardens. I visit that place at least couple of times each year and it just so happens that for the past few years I brought a different camera every year to snap the pictures. Here is one taken with my trusty P&S Nikon Coolpix P5000. And later on came this one taken with my first SLR, Nikon D40x. And the current one was taken with my Canon XSi. Looking at all three side by side you can really get the impression that I’ve been trying to get closer and closer to those tiny little pollen producing buggers, which some might consider strange since I suffer from seasonal allergies.

I’ve finally been able to try out one of the new gadgets we’ve purchased. It’s a 1.5x teleconverter from Kenko that I attached to my lens to see if I can get better results in macro. I have to say that so far all the pictures I have taken with the attachment are of lesser quality than my images taken without it, which was to be expected and I have been forewarned. Maybe better lighting will give me better results once we have some real “springing” happening outside. For now I have these for you:

You know, the type of thing that you order for <$10, and you’re sort of suprised when it shows up, and even more suprised if it works. These shots were taken with a Close Up Filter (basically a threaded magnifying lens, ~$5.00, free delivery) attached to a kit lens. It’s a little hard to use, and it comes with no docs, but it allows you to get closer than you otherwise could without switching to a macro.

You would expect a Fotogeek to be passionate about photography and you wouldn’t be wrong to assume that. In fact, my Fotogeek takes his camera with him pretty much everywhere… be it work, the grocery store or any other outing. In the bottom picture you see him sitting in the car at a car wash line-up! Since the snow has been melting progressively, we decided to wash the car in hopes that it will finally be free of salt residue. Apparently, that day half of Mount Pearl decided it was time to wash their cars as well and we ended up waiting a good 40 mins in a line-up. So what does a good Fotogeek do in this situation? Yes, you guessed it, he pulls out a camera and starts shooting the car in front of him or turns towards his fellow Fotogeek and shoots her I in return shot him

So all this might not be news for you, but you might not realize that your fellow Fotogeek is also an excelent househusband, as is documented in the picture on the right. And I don’t mean this in any bad way, quite the contrary. It’s actually quite simple: I make food and he cleans up. Vive l’égalité entre les sexes! *

There is another tidbit about Randy that you might not be aware of and it’s his fatherly side. I could not have dreamt of a better person to be a role model for my son. They get along perfectly. Don’t get me wrong, as in all types of relationships, there is occasional friction, but I am happy to say these two hit it off instantly, which can clearly be seen in the main picture taken during the Santa Clause Parade of 2008.

* French phrase meaning “Long live the equality between the sexes”

You all know me from my Love Affair with Geek no.1 publicly displayed in the comment section of this blog, so I will simply skip the intro and get straight to the point. On second thought, I think I should clarify that contrary to popular belief I do know a thing or two about the English language. Nevertheless, you will quickly get accustomed to my accidental omission of indefinite and definite articles, since they do not exist in my native tongue. I’m deeply sorry about making the eagle “kiss Mike’s ass” and I assure you it was a typo, I would never subject the poor bird to such an atrocity

Ok, enough with the babble. Here is a sample of my work. Yes, I do enjoy shooting macro more than anything else, so I volunteer to be the new Macro Lady
