I was pleasantly surprised a few months back when a little bit of crap that we ordered from eBay arrived and worked as advertised. It’s an attachment that threads on the end of a 58mm lens, giving a wider field of view.
I also confirmed today during a quick outing with Andreau that it allows very close focusing, turning any lens with a matching thread size into a half-assed macro. The image quality is less-than-perfect, but what would you expect for ~$50.00. ????? ???? ? ??????? ??????

Here are some flowers from the Botanical Gardens. I visit that place at least couple of times each year and it just so happens that for the past few years I brought a different camera every year to snap the pictures. Here is one taken with my trusty P&S Nikon Coolpix P5000. And later on came this one taken with my first SLR, Nikon D40x. And the current one was taken with my Canon XSi. Looking at all three side by side you can really get the impression that I’ve been trying to get closer and closer to those tiny little pollen producing buggers, which some might consider strange since I suffer from seasonal allergies.

I’ve finally been able to try out one of the new gadgets we’ve purchased. It’s a 1.5x teleconverter from Kenko that I attached to my lens to see if I can get better results in macro. I have to say that so far all the pictures I have taken with the attachment are of lesser quality than my images taken without it, which was to be expected and I have been forewarned. Maybe better lighting will give me better results once we have some real “springing” happening outside. For now I have these for you:

We had some eBay stuff show up on Friday. You know, the type of thing that you order for <$10, and you’re sort of suprised when it shows up, and even more suprised if it works. These shots were taken with a Close Up Filter (basically a threaded magnifying lens, ~$5.00, free delivery) attached to a kit lens. It’s a little hard to use, and it comes with no docs, but it allows you to get closer than you otherwise could without switching to a macro.

* This post could also be called “eBay is Crap”, but that’s another story.

It’s been over a month since Valentine’s Day and I am still holding on to my roses. Actually, it’s just one rose and it has obviously dried up by now. Oh btw, there is no rose, it’s just a picture that I did not want to post. But there comes a point in time when a lack of new stock hits you and you are persuaded to dig deep in the archives… So here it is: My resting rose.
