Last time we went shooting at Cape Spear I was solemnly promised that we would not go back there until the summer, or at least until it warmed up a little bit, since every time we got there we’d be out of there in no time due to extremely cold winds. Last night the Fotogeeks schemed up a road trip to, you guessed it, Cape Spear. And of course, silly me, I was convinced we were going to Manuals River Trail. That is, until the morning of the departure when I was told that: “It should be a great sunrise at Cape Spear this morning.” I have to say, I was tempted to turn around in bed and get another 2-3 hours of sleep. But instead I sucked it up and came down for breakfast. While eating my cereal I was already imagining freezing cold wilds blowing in my face causing my nose to turn blue, my fingertips and toes ready to fall off any minute…. At least I was allowed to drive, which is always good for the odd-one-out who doesn’t know the people in the car
Upon arrival at the scene I was quite surprised to discover that the wind was not half as bad as it usually is at Cape Spear and the sun was just about to start to rise. So my little fingers got to work very quickly, which also helped with not getting too cold. When the sun appeared on the horizon I quickly started shooting everything in the vicinity, which pretty much is limited to the two light houses… After 10-15 mins the sun reached a low-lying cloud and that was it for that spot.

In the end I’m glad I went. However, I do have some new Gerbera waiting for her photo session with me….

I’ve been playing with some actions, applying them to random images taken on various occasions.

I’m looking forward to not having to improvise by buying my own flowers…… So can the snow melt and the flowers start blooming already ?

My geek and I took advantage of today’s lovely cloudless sky and warm light to take some pictures after work. Since you would need to try really hard to pry my macro lens off my camera, I headed straight for close-up possibilities and found some greenery to satisfy my thirst. Needless to say, I do have ways to go with the whole macro thing. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, since my new gadget is due to arrive.

You would expect a Fotogeek to be passionate about photography and you wouldn’t be wrong to assume that. In fact, my Fotogeek takes his camera with him pretty much everywhere… be it work, the grocery store or any other outing. In the bottom picture you see him sitting in the car at a car wash line-up! Since the snow has been melting progressively, we decided to wash the car in hopes that it will finally be free of salt residue. Apparently, that day half of Mount Pearl decided it was time to wash their cars as well and we ended up waiting a good 40 mins in a line-up. So what does a good Fotogeek do in this situation? Yes, you guessed it, he pulls out a camera and starts shooting the car in front of him or turns towards his fellow Fotogeek and shoots her
I in return shot him
So all this might not be news for you, but you might not realize that your fellow Fotogeek is also an excelent househusband, as is documented in the picture on the right. And I don’t mean this in any bad way, quite the contrary. It’s actually quite simple: I make food and he cleans up. Vive l’égalité entre les sexes! *
There is another tidbit about Randy that you might not be aware of and it’s his fatherly side. I could not have dreamt of a better person to be a role model for my son. They get along perfectly. Don’t get me wrong, as in all types of relationships, there is occasional friction, but I am happy to say these two hit it off instantly, which can clearly be seen in the main picture taken during the Santa Clause Parade of 2008.
* French phrase meaning “Long live the equality between the sexes”
